This is mixed media abstract art created on canvas with acrylic, crystalized borax, epoxy resin and pearl mica pigment.
It can be hung horizontally or vertically - depending on your preference. When I was making it, I designed it as horizontal with the drift ice on top (as pictured) but now that it’s finished, I think it would look cool either way.
This piece is not framed.
The sides have been painted/ finished for, painted edges, a sealed top coat to help preserve the colors, and hanging hardware attached. More information can be found on my “What to Expect” page. -
I was experimenting with growing sugar-like crystals on sea shells. I saw an Instagram video that showed how it’s done: dissolve borax (like the cleaning powder from the grocery store) with hot water. Then you put shells (or rocks, or little trinkets, or whatever you want) into the mixture and let it sit for like 24 hours. Small sugar-like crystals will have attached all over the items. It magically makes your item sparkly and pretty. On the outside of the rectangle container I had used, there was a thin layer of crystals all around the edges. I carefully slide them off and broke them into little “ice slabs”.
I used those pieces to create this arctic ice art piece. A top layer of epoxy resin gives it the glossy and smooth texture.

The texture is actually my favorite part of this piece - pieces of bumpy crystal formations alongside glass-like smoothness. This is art that’s made to be touched.
